SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF CHIEF AUGUSTUS EPEBINU AKENROYE
Chief Augustus Epebinu Akenroye was born in a community known as Lowodo in Ilutitun,, Okitipupa LGA, Ondo State of Nigeria on the 6th March, 1936 to the family of Late Chief Akenroye Francis and Late Mrs Sabainah Akenroye. He started his early quest for education and knowledge at Saint James Primary School, Ajegunle now Ogun State in 1942 and later completed his Primary Education at Native Authority Primary School, Ilutitun in 1950. He proceeded to All Saints Teachers’ Training College Ushi Ekiti for teachers training courses in 1956/57. He obtained his Grade 3 Certificate in December 1957 and taught for three years as a primary school teacher before he proceeded to the famous Saint Andrew College Oyo where he obtained Teachers’ Grade 2 Certificate in 1962. While at Saint Andrew College, Oyo, he served as pioneer Officer Cadets of the Boys’ Brigades of Nigeria in 1962 under the leadership of Venerable Seth Irunsewe Kale who later became Bishop of Lagos. After he left Saint Andrew College, Oyo, he studied for the London GCE where he passed 3 advance and 3 ordinary level at the same sitting before he gained admission into Ife University, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State) to study Law between 1966 to 1969. He was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar in 1970 as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Chief Augustus Epebinu Akenroye began his career as a Civil Servant with the Old Western Region Government at Ibadan Oyo State in March 1975 before Ondo State was carved out of the Old Western Region in 1976. He was transferred from Ibadan to Akure in February 1976 as one of the pioneer staff of the Ministry of Justice Akure. He committed the entirety of his adult life to public service and rose through the ranks to the position of Director of Public Prosecution in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice, a position he held with high integrity and honour and from which he retired in July 1990. He was appointed as Special Assistant to the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Ondo State in 2002. On November 16, 2020, he marked 50 years of being called to the Nigerian Bar and he spent those 50 years significantly contributing to the development of law and the legal profession in Ondo State and Nigeria in general.
Chief Augustus Epebinu Akenroye is blessed with many children and grandchildren. He died peacefully on the 20th of December, 2021 at the ripe age of 85. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace. Amen.
